Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, has prohibited the Channels Television team from entering the Government House Press Centre in Uyo after the channel aired a video clip in which he publicly declared his intention to leave the PDP and join the APC.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
This comes after video of the governor’s comments was broadcast on Channels Television on Friday. The governor was reportedly embarrassed by the broadcast. Sources inside Government House said that after the transmission, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, the governor’s spokesperson, called press corps members and warned them not to share the tape any further.
According to a source, Ekerete (Udoh) called the Channels TV crew on Saturday morning and told them that the governor had prohibited them from entering the press center. “The governor wanted to fire Ekerete and disband the entire press corps because he was so angry.” Christopher Moffat, the longtime Government House journalist for Channels Television, and Kufre Ikpe, the cinematographer for the network, are both impacted by the eviction.
The decision is noteworthy since it was made just days after Mr. John Momoh, the chairman and CEO of Channels TV, visited Governor Eno at Government House during the just-completed Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Week in Uyo. At a meeting Thursday at Government House, the governor made the comments that set off the government’s response. The event swiftly descended into politics, despite its original purpose of reviewing ongoing government programs.
Governor Eno made it clear in a speech to the State Executive Council that any cabinet member who refused to accompany him to the APC should get ready to resign. The governor declared, “We want our commissioners and members of Exco, appointees, and those of you who are saying that you would not come, though you are free to do so, you will not be in my State Executive Council.”
“You are an appointee, and your loyalty is entirely to me. You cannot, so get ready to resign the day I announce that I’m moving. You cannot play anti-party while serving in my government. He went on, “It is what it is.”
The governor’s primary motivation for his intended defection was internal PDP conflicts, including the ongoing legal battle over the party’s National Secretary post. He also stated that he would not cede leadership of the PDP structure in Akwa Ibom, a position that is thought to put him at odds with Mr. Udom Emmanuel, his predecessor, who is allegedly not on board with the APC change. It is anticipated that Governor Eno will formally defect in early June, according to sources.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
