During a recent interview with The VANGUARD, Professor Nwosu was asked if he thought the PDP could make it through its current internal crisis and recover. In a direct response, he was upbeat, saying that the crisis had really inspired him. He thinks that adversity can occasionally pave the way for regeneration. He clarified that the current political climate, which has been molded by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, has provided a potent contrast that has shown the negative effects of eschewing democratic principles.

He used an emotive Igbo proverb to emphasize his point: “When the child dies by dawn and the old woman cries at night, and those in charge of justice support it in the morning, then something is profoundly wrong.” According to him, this metaphor depicts a society in which warning indications are disregarded and wrongdoing goes unpunished, even being justified by those in positions of authority who should be defending democracy and the rule of law.

Professor Nwosu went on to condemn the National Assembly’s activities, pointing out that legislative decisions were made without following the correct constitutional procedures. Inquiring as to how the parliamentarians arrived at the definition of a two-thirds majority, he said the procedure was at odds with the democratic norms he had supported and been familiar with throughout his professional life.

Using his background as a cabinet minister and former presidential adviser, Nwosu recounted an instance in which “The president (Bola Tinubu) took President (Olusegun) Obasanjo to court over non democratic tendencies.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
