Reconciliation efforts between Fubara and his political predecessor and main opponent in the ongoing crisis, Chief Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, were already in progress, he acknowledged Thursday at a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of his political family, the Simplified Movement, in Port Harcourt as part of events commemorating his two years in office.
“The peace process is already underway,” Fubara said. “I would want to express my gratitude to the President for his prompt action in resolving the crisis and stabilizing the State and the political system. The story today might have been different if it weren’t for Mr. President. Following the President’s involvement, he revealed, a number of peace sessions had been organized, some of which were hosted in the FCT Minister’s home.
“There is no reason why there will not be peace between me and my Oga,” Fubara said, indicating a willingness to make amends for the strained relationship between him and Wike. “There will be peace,” he continued. We’re getting together. We’ll make amends. Fubara also gave his fans hope that he will “return to office soon” and resume his official responsibilities. Earlier this year, after months of hostilities between Fubara and Wike’s supporters, President Tinubu intervened in the political impasse in Rivers State. Under emergency rule, the governor, his deputy, and members of the House of Assembly were suspended by the president for a period of six months.
