At first, he refused due to the fear of his elder brother Murad thinking he was still alive and setting a trap for him. He later accepted after he personally inspected his brother’s corpse. When he took over the throne, he was given concubines to immediately father a heir. It was unknown to him that he was the ruler only by name while his mother and the viziers were the true power behind his throne.

He was given many concubines and reportedly slept with 24 of them in a single night that made him the father of 18 children. He also had many mirrors installed in his bedroom which enabled him to see himself while in action from different angles and after him, no crowned sultan was named Ibrahim.
