FC Barcelona are reportedly set to clear the debt owed to their former player, Lionel Messi and a host of other stars.
Note that Barcelona have been battling with financial issues, a situation that seems to be subsiding in recent months. The financial issues contributed greatly to why Lionel Messi had to leave them for Paris Saint-Germain in 2022.
After cutting costs, rebranding their stadium and letting go of some of their overpaid players, Barcelona have started settling debts owed to some of their players. The said debt was incurred after some players at the club agreed to wage deferrals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some of the players, both past and present, like Pedri and Ronald Araujo, have been reportedly receiving payments from the deferred wages in bits. A report by Culemania via Diario AS said Lionel Messi is expected to receive his last repayment on Monday, June 30, 2025.
The report revealed that Messi’s final repayment from Barcelona is nothing less than €5.95 million. Also, his current teammates at Inter Miami, who were also subjected to the wage deferment, will receive their final payment of €1.18 million and €943,000, respectively.
Other Barcelona players who will receive their final repayment on Monday include, Pedri (€757k), Araujo (€429k), Samuel Umtiti (€1.2m), Antoine Griezmann (€965k) and Ousmane Dembele (€643k).
