The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has released a 20-woman provisional roster ahead of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament, set to kick off this summer in Ivory Coast.
The list includes a blend of experience and rising stars, retaining the core of the squad that clinched the 2023 Afrobasket title in Kigali, Rwanda.
Headlining the squad are seasoned campaigners Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara, as well as star forward Amy Okonkwo, who plies her trade with Turkish giants Besiktas.
Also making the cut are Nicole Enabosi, Lauren Ebo, and veteran Victoria Macaulay, who returns to the national setup after a lengthy absence. Emerging talents Solape Amusan and Grace Efosa have also been included, with the latter earning her first national team invitation under coach Rena Wakama.
Defensive anchors such as Pallas Kunaiyi, Murjanatu Musa, and Elizabeth Balogun are joined by Ifunaya Okoro, Olawuyi Adenike, Christabel Ezumah, Vera Ojenuwa, Izoje Uche, Gift Uchenna, Ugonne Onyiah, Blessing Ejiofor, and Abiodun Damilola Yusuf.
The D’Tigress, who are gunning for a record fifth consecutive Afrobasket crown, will arrive in Ivory Coast as defending champions, buoyed by their recent dominance on the continent.
Meanwhile, in the men’s division, D’Tigers forward Chima Moneke has completed a high-profile move to Serbian powerhouse Crvena Zvezda on a two-year deal reportedly worth €3.4 million.
The 29-year-old joins from Spanish side Saskia Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, where he impressed in the 2024/25 EuroLeague season with averages of 14.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
Moneke, who shot an efficient 64.5% from two-point range and 81.3% from the line, was a hot target this summer before opting to sign with the Serbian giants. His new club, currently undergoing an ambitious rebuild, recently extended the contract of head coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos until 2027.
The former Basketball Champions League MVP and brief Sacramento Kings forward continues his meteoric rise in European basketball, with Zvezda aiming for domestic and continental glory with their new Nigerian star.
