Team Bayelsa Currently Topping Medals Table At National Sports Festival

Team Bayelsa are currently at the forefront of the medal race in the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival, which is taking place in Ogun state.

As the multi-sport competition heats up, Team Bayelsa have showcased remarkable athletic prowess, amassing a total of nine medals thus far.

This impressive tally includes six gold medals, underscoring their dominance in several disciplines, along with two silver and one bronze medal.

Hot on their heels is Oyo State, which has made a commendable showing with a more modest collection of medals: four gold, one silver, and one bronze.

Following closely behind is Lagos State, a strong competitor in the festival, boasting a total of three gold medals, four silver, and three bronze, reflecting their depth in various sports.

Cross River State who were leading the standings after day two have seen a decline in their medal count, remaining stagnant at three gold medals, which has resulted in them dropping to fourth place.

Meanwhile, Rivers State rounds out the top five, with a solid performance contributing two gold medals, three silver, and one bronze to their tally.

The Invited Junior Athletes, often referred to as the “38th state” in this context, have made their presence felt, proudly securing the sixth position with a commendable haul of two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.

Defending champion Delta State, known for their previous dominance in the festival with four consecutive wins, are currently in seventh place after Tuesday’s series of events, managing to capture one gold, one silver, and one bronze.

In total, the festival has witnessed the awarding of 71 medals to date, comprising an even distribution of 23 gold medals, 23 silver, and 25 bronze medals.

The intensity of the competition escalates as athletes gear up for a series of medal events scheduled for Wednesday, featuring weightlifting, women’s badminton, squash, and more.

Additionally, new events, including swimming and tennis, are set to launch today at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, while gymnastics and volleyball competitions will commence at the Alake Sports Complex.
