The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused supporters of former Governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, of trying to cause a crisis in the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election.
Naija News reports that a series of arguments last week proved to be tumultuous for the APC as its North-East zonal meeting concluded in turmoil.
Footage that emerged online following the meeting depicted Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, clearly displeased with the proceedings of the gathering.
The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, along with his team, faced allegations of intentionally neglecting Vice President Kashim Shettima while endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.
In several videos, Zulum appeared to be nearly shouting at Ganduje.
Although the APC Chairman remained seated, the situation seemed to escalate into a fervent disagreement, particularly from the governor’s side.
Subsequently, supporters of Shettima, including Engr. Bashir Buba Muhammad and other loyal allies reacted strongly to Ganduje’s purported exclusion of the Vice President.
In a series of posts via his social media page, Muhammad accused Ganduje of attempting to “usurp” the VP position, similar to his alleged misappropriation of Kano dollars, even sharing the notorious Kano dollar video incident again.
In another update, he quoted Zulum as stating, “No Kashim, no APC in the North.”
Nevertheless, the Kano State chapter of the APC has denied allegations that Ganduje is seeking to take Shettima’s position.
Speaking to Daily Post on Monday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ahmed S. Aruwa, remarked: “As far as I know, the APC Chairman has never spoken about wanting Kashim Shettima’s seat. We never discussed it, and he does not harbour such an intention.”
He stated that the determination of the Vice President’s position rests solely with President Bola Tinubu, and there remains ample time for a decision.
He charged the supporters of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso with overstating the matter, further remarking, “They have attempted to exploit a gap within the APC but have discovered none.
“This is who they are — the Kwankwasiyya will try to cause chaos in the APC should they return to the party. That is why we would never welcome them back.”
In the meantime, political analyst Professor Kamilu Sani Fagge from Bayero University, Kano, addressed the media regarding the matter.
He indicated that the incident reflects a more profound issue within the APC, potentially resulting in significant difficulties as the 2027 elections approach.
Fagge further noted that while there remains time, the current situation may indicate a fissure that the opposition could take advantage of.
