Iwuanyanwu’s Will Unveiled: Widow Gets Iconic Owerri Property, Loses It If She Remarries

Nearly one year after his passing, the last Will and testament of elder statesman and former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has been formally read to his family, shedding light on how his vast estate will be distributed.

According to Vanguard, the document, read on June 16, 2025, by Chukwuma Ekomaru (SAN), outlines detailed allocations to members of his family, with specific instructions for property usage, ownership transfers, and charitable obligations.

One of the most significant revelations in the Will is the bequest of the late statesman’s ‘Legacy House’, located along Port Harcourt Road in Owerri, to his young widow, Frances Chinonyerem Enwerem, whom he married in 2013 at the age of 72.

However, the Will places strict conditions on her inheritance: Frances is prohibited from selling the property, and should she remarry, she will forfeit ownership of the mansion and other bequeathed assets.

Also left in her care are Magil Furniture, a business once managed by Iwuanyanwu’s late first wife, Lady Eudora Nnenna Ozinyereaku Iwuanyanwu, and partial interests in properties located in Orji, Works Layout, and Naze, all within Imo State.

The Abuja residence was left to the couple’s only son, while the family’s London property is to be sold. Proceeds from that sale will be distributed as follows:

60% allocated to the education of his youngest son,

30% to his first son, Jide,

and 10% to Ezinne, the current occupant of the London property, to aid her relocation.

In a gesture reflecting his commitment to philanthropy, the late businessman directed that his famous Glass House, situated near the Owerri flyover, be converted into a public trust.

The Will stipulates that an independent board be set up to oversee the property, ensuring it is used solely for charitable and community-focused purposes.

Additional real estate holdings in Abuja, Imo, and other parts of Nigeria have been equitably shared among his five children.
