Mbappe Discharged From Hospital After Stomach Bug

Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe, has been discharged from a U.S. hospital after recovering from a bout of gastroenteritis, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Mbappe, currently in the United States with his team for the FIFA Club World Cup, had been sidelined after what Real Madrid described as “an acute case of gastroenteritis.”

He was taken in for tests and treatment earlier this week and missed Madrid’s opening match, a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal on Wednesday.

“Our player Kylian Mbappe was discharged from hospital this afternoon and has returned to the Real Madrid training camp,” the Spanish giants announced in an official statement. “Mbappe will continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to the team’s activities.”

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso, overseeing his first match at the helm, revealed prior to the Al-Hilal game that Mbappe was “feeling a little better,” but the 26-year-old was ultimately ruled out of the encounter in Miami.

In Mbappe’s absence, 21-year-old Gonzalo Garcia from the Madrid B team stepped up, scoring the opening goal against Al-Hilal.

Real Madrid’s next Club World Cup match is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, against Mexican side Pachuca in Charlotte. It remains unclear whether Mbappe will be fit in time to feature.

Recall that Kylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid last summer and made an instant impact, finishing as the European Golden Shoe winner with 31 La Liga goals. However, his stellar debut season ended without a major trophy for Los Blancos.
