Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne has expressed some concerns about participating in this year’s Club World Cup, suggesting that he may opt out of the competition.
Kevin De Bruyne’s primary worry is the risk of injury, which could impact his plans to move to a new club following the end of his contract with City.
De Bruyne, 33, is approaching the end of his tenure with Manchester City, and becoming a free agent fits his future aspirations.
Should he choose to play in the Club World Cup, scheduled for June and July in the US, he would need to negotiate a short-term contract extension. However, he remains hesitant, as his focus is on securing a position with a new team this summer.
De Bruyne stated, “I think in a way I have to take care of myself because if I get injured in the Club World Cup, what am I going to do?”
“Nobody’s going to take care of me at that point. So there’s a big chance probably I won’t play it, but I don’t know, maybe yes.”
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, is optimistic about the potential for growth among his teammates as they gear up for the 2025-2026 season.
He highlighted the importance of Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad Diallo stepping up their performances to enhance the team’s overall success.
Fernandes expressed, “I would be delighted if I’m not mentioned among the names for the best player award next year. That would indicate that Amad, Garnacho, and Rasmus have really made an impact.”
He emphasised the need for them to focus on scoring, providing assists, and contributing defensively to capture the attention of fans.
Since joining Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, Fernandes has been a pivotal figure for the team and is eager to see his fellow players rise to the occasion.
