Hundreds of youths in Kano staged a protest on thursday in support of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori, claiming that Governor Yusuf’s demands are driven by politics and could compromise police effectiveness and security in the state.
The protest followed a press conference in support of the governor’s call to remove the Commissioner of Police over allegations of humiliating the governor during the Independence Day celebration in the state.
The youth carried placards with different inscriptions arguing that Governor Yusuf’s demands are politically motivated and undermine the authority of the police, potentially destabilising security in the state.
The banners were inscribed with “CP Kano must stay” “Kano People Love CP” “Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Leave CP alone” and other slogans.
In a similar vein, the Kano Agenda, a coalition of civil society groups, has demanded an immediate investigation into the police withdrawal during the Independence Day celebration, calling for those responsible to be held accountable.
Speaking at a press conference in Kano on thursday, leader of the group Comrade Abbas Yakasai said independence day should be a day to the nation together, above politics, divisions, and conflicts.
At a press conference in Kano on Thursday, Comrade Abbas Yakasai, the leader of the group, emphasised that Independence Day should unite the nation, transcending political differences, divisions, and conflicts.
“This withdrawal, announced barely 30 minutes before the event, under unclear and suspicious directives, was more than a logistical setback it was an affront to the spirit of independence itself.” lamented.
It could be recalled, the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the Kano State Commissioner of Police from Kano for not participating in the independence parade in the state.
