Troops Kill Eight ISWAP Terrorists In Borno Clash

Troops of the Joint Task Force in the North-East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have killed eight Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters during an encounter in Borno State.

According to military sources quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria, the gun battle occurred early Monday near Garin Giwa, along the Baga–Cross Kauwa Main Supply Route (MSR), as the insurgents attempted to disrupt military operations.

The source said the terrorists met stiff resistance from the troops, leading to the death of two Munzirs and one Qaid among the fighters.

“The identified fighters include Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun, another unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha Qaid of Tumbun Mota,” the source disclosed.

Several others reportedly sustained gunshot wounds as they fled on foot, abandoning 14 motorcycles, which were later recovered by the troops.

The source added that the Theatre Command remains committed to eradicating terrorism in the region and restoring peace to communities ravaged by insurgency.

Last month, OPHK troops killed over 35 ISWAP fighters in a coordinated operation around Kumshe, a border community in Borno, after the terrorists attempted to overrun military positions.

In other news, the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, narrowly escaped death on Sunday when his convoy was involved in an accident along the Maigatari road.

Naija News understands that Dangyatin was on his way to a state-organised political rally tagged “Gwamnati da Jama’a” (Government and the People) when the incident occurred.

According to The Nation, eyewitnesses said one of the escort vehicles, a black Toyota Hilux conveying police officers, suddenly lost control and somersaulted, throwing the occupants out.
