Tinubu’s Vision Is for Abuja To Compete With Global Cities, Says Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision is to transform Abuja into a city that competes favourably with other global capitals.

Speaking on Monday during the flag-off of the Mohammed Isa Road extension project, Wike said the ongoing infrastructural works across the territory reflect the president’s commitment to urban renewal, job creation, and world-class development.

“You cannot say the FCT is working and Mr. President is not working. Does it make sense?” Wike asked. “Through us, we carry out the directive, we carry out instruction, we carry out the vision of Mr. President. And one of the visions he has is that FCT must compete favorably with other cities of the world.”

The minister noted that the Tinubu administration is determined to deliver projects that will improve the city’s landscape and enhance the quality of life for residents. He said the completion of the ongoing road, drainage, and lighting projects would not only beautify the capital but also create employment for youths.

“Every day, one company carrying out one construction or the other. Tomorrow, we’ll be in another place where another company will be carrying out construction. Wednesday, the same thing. Thursday, the same thing. And our teaming youths are all engaged in this. That is creation of jobs. That is creation of employment. ” he said.

Wike also emphasised that Abuja’s transformation is not a result of magic but of commitment and effective leadership.

He urged Nigerians to be truthful in acknowledging the progress being made under the current administration, adding that the government is addressing long-neglected projects that previous leaders failed to execute.

“For those of you who have had the opportunity to travel overseas, it is not as if it is magic. It is because of commitment. It is because the leadership wants to be committed and want to do the work. And that is what the president is doing today. Abuja is a beautiful place.

“Therefore, let Nigerians be truthful to themselves. Let us understand that if these things were done before now, probably we would have chanelled out our resources to other things. But because they were not done, we cannot close our eyes and say it should not be done. That’s why it looks as if nothing is going on because people who jad opportunity to carry out these activities refused to. But this government has come to make sure that all these things are done.”
