The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has clarified that, contrary to an erroneous report claiming that two guests were killed during a wedding celebration in Abuja, no such incident occurred within the territory.
The Command further explained that the incident described in the report did not take place within the FCT, as implied by the misleading headline.
In a statement issued Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, it was stated that investigations and geographical verification confirmed that the locations mentioned in the story—Garam, Rafin-Azum, and Tafa Local Government Area—are all situated in Niger State, not within the Federal Capital Territory.
“Furthermore, the Suleja Police Area Command cited in the report falls under the jurisdiction of the Niger State Police Command, not the FCT Command. It is therefore misleading to attribute the unfortunate incident to the FCT, as neither the location nor the responsible police jurisdiction is within the Federal Capital Territory,” Adeh clarified.
While expressing sympathy for those affected, the FCT Police Command also acknowledged the proximity of these border communities to the nation’s capital.
However, it stressed the importance of accurate geographical reporting to avoid public misunderstanding or unnecessary alarm among residents of Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ajao Adewale, urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to the Command.
