Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has declared that it is his turn to govern Oyo State in 2027. Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement with APC leaders on Sunday, Adelabu emphasised that after years of political service and previous electoral attempts, he is ready to lead the state.
Adelabu had contested against Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in both the 2019 and 2023 elections but was unsuccessful. Following the 2023 elections, he returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a brief period in the Accord Party and was appointed Minister of Power by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a viral video, Adelabu spoke in Yoruba, echoing Tinubu’s popular slogan “E mi Lokan” (“It’s my turn”), stating, “I have been on this journey for a while now. I believe it’s not the day you start politics that you begin to reap the benefits. I have now paid my dues. I contested against Seyi in 2019. In 2023, I also contested against Seyi, then as the sitting governor. But this 2027, God has shown that it’s my turn. It’s Adelabu time. Anything that belongs to Adelabu belongs to us all.”
The Minister called on party leaders and supporters to join him in efforts to reclaim Oyo from the PDP, promising a grassroots campaign.
“I’m ready to take the lead to embark on a house-to-house campaign, day and night to beg our people in order to work together and reap the benefits,” he said.
Adelabu’s announcement sets the stage for what is expected to be a competitive race in Oyo State, as he seeks to leverage his political experience and ministerial position to secure APC’s return to power.
