Former Kaduna central senatorial district lawmaker and renowned human rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani has taken to his official X handle to make a striking comment following the predicament of former presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore. According to his statements, he pointed out that many were in court over their social media content in Nigeria.

The brouhaha surrounding the highly controversial social media post from renowned human rights activist and former presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore culminated in a court appearance where he was expected to defend himself.
However, in the aftermath of the incident, a lot of mixed reactions were generated from the general public and many weighed in on freedom of speech in a democratic set-up across the globe.
Senator Shehu Sani, a renowned human rights activist and former federal lawmaker in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, made a remarkable comment regarding the predicament of Sowore.
According to his statements, he disclosed that a TikToker was arrested in Somalia for insulting the president, likewise a journalist lost her job for posting offensive comments. He further pointed out that the United States were monitoring offensive posts across various social media platforms.
In Nigeria, according to Senator Shehu Sani, many were in court (referring to Omoyele Sowore) for their social media content. He concluded by stating that freedom of speech was no longer free as western democracies were now afraid of the social media.
