According to a report by Punch on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the camp of Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusations that she was treated as a domestic servant and victimised during her suspension.
Speaking through his media aide, Kenny Okolugbo, Akpabio described the allegations as baseless, insisting that the Senate acted strictly in accordance with established rules.
Okolugbo explained that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension was the result of her refusal to take her seat on February 20, 2025, and subsequent behaviour considered unbecoming of a lawmaker.
He stated, “Senator Natasha was suspended on 6th March 2025 for gross misconduct after the Ethics and Privileges and Public Petitions Committee presented its findings to the Senate. The decision to suspend her for six months was in line with Senate rules and regulations.”
He further noted that her premature attempt to resume in July was unsupported by the court, which only deemed the suspension excessive.
Stressing that she had enjoyed significant privileges since her inauguration, he dismissed her claims of being treated as a slave, maintaining that due process was fully observed
