Security analyst, Kabiru Adamu, has raised alarm over the recent peace deal in Hayin Gada community, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, involving suspected bandits.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Adamu disclosed that one of the so-called repentant bandits is in fact a notorious criminal already declared wanted, with a ₦5 million bounty placed on his head.
He explained that a picture of the man was sent to him, and the image showed the bandit boldly posing with several bullet magazines strapped around his stomach. According to him, each magazine holds 30 rounds of ammunition, and the quantity was so large he could not even count them all.
Adamu expressed deep concern that a fugitive of such notoriety could openly surface in public without fear of arrest and, worse still, participate in an official peace negotiation facilitated by a public institution. He warned that such actions not only undermine security efforts but also embolden criminal groups, sending a dangerous message that crime may be rewarded rather than punished.
In his statement, he said, “One of the bandits that we saw, in fact the picture that he sent to me, that guy has a 5 million naira bounty on his head and yet he came out in public. I tried to count the number of magazines on his body but I was not able to count the number of magazines that he had wrapped around his stomach. Each magazine has 30 bullets.”
