Throwback Photos From The Burial Of Aguiyi Ironsi In 1966

On July 29, 1966, Aguiyi-Ironsi stayed overnight at the Government House in Ibadan during a nationwide tour. His host, Lieutenant Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, the Military Governor of Western Nigeria, warned him about a potential mutiny within the army. Aguiyi-Ironsi made urgent attempts to reach his Army Chief of Staff, Yakubu Gowon, but was unable to get through.
