Quincy Promes Extradited to Netherlands To Serve Prison Sentence

Former Dutch international, Quincy Promes, has been extradited to the Netherlands to begin serving a combined seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence for drug trafficking and aggravated assault.

Quincy Promes, who is currently 33 years old, was arrested in Dubai in 2024 following an international warrant issued by Dutch authorities.

On arrival in the Netherlands, Promes was taken into custody to begin serving the sentence stemming from two separate convictions.

In February 2024, Promes was sentenced to six years for his involvement in smuggling over a tonne of cocaine from Belgium into the Netherlands in 2020.

He had also received an 18-month sentence for stabbing his cousin in the knee during a 2020 family gathering. He had previously avoided incarceration by remaining abroad.

Promes, who has denied all charges and launched appeals in both cases, had an extensive career in European football. He began his senior career at FC Twente in 2009, later playing for Spartak Moscow (twice), Sevilla, and Ajax. His most recent stint was with Dubai United, whom he joined in 2024.

The winger made 50 appearances for the Dutch national team between 2014 and 2023, scoring seven goals.

At the time of writing this report, the Dutch prosecutors have yet to confirm the exact facility where Promes will serve his sentence.
