Midfield dynamo, Promise Awosanmi, is reportedly on the radar of top Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs following the expiration of his contract with Sunshine Stars.
The 24-year-old is attracting interest from former NPFL champions Rangers International, as well as Shooting Stars and Kwara United, finalists in the 2024 President Federation Cup.
Awosanmi stood out in the just-concluded NPFL season, registering five goals in 21 appearances despite Sunshine Stars’ relegation.
Known for his energy and creativity in midfield, he joined the Akure-based club from Akure City FC in 2021 and has since become a consistent performer in Nigeria’s top flight.
As he weighs his next move, multiple clubs are believed to be keen on snapping him up to bolster their squads ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran sports administrator, Abba Yola, a former chairman of NPFL club, Kano Pillars.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, NOC President, Habu Ahmed Gumel, described Yola as a dedicated public servant and a pillar in Nigeria’s sports development.
“Abba Yola was more than just a passionate sports official. He was a pillar in Nigeria’s sporting landscape and a devoted public servant who gave his all to the development of athletics and football,” the statement read.
Yola held numerous significant positions over the years, including Chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club, Chief of Staff to former Sports Minister Chief Sunday Dare, and Special Assistant to ex-NSC Director-General, Dr. Patrick Ekeji.
He was also involved in various national sports committees, where his input was instrumental in shaping policies and reforms.
Gumel praised Yola’s calm demeanor, sense of style, and ability to forge lasting relationships across the sporting community.
“His passing is a great loss to Kano State and the entire Nigerian sports fraternity,” the NOC added.
