PDP Announces Plans For NEC Meeting Despite INEC Warning

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to proceed with its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting despite a recent objection raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP, in a statement on Tuesday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the NEC meeting would hold on Monday, 30th June, as previously agreed.

He urged all accredited members of the NEC to be available by 1 pm on the set date at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

“All members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the general public may recall that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great Party at its 99th meeting held on Tuesday, 27th May, 2025 unanimously resolved to hold the 100th NEC meeting on Monday, 30th June, 2025.

“Distinguished members of NEC are hereby reminded of the scheduled 100th NEC meeting as earlier summoned to hold as follows:

Date: Monday, 30th June, 2025

Time: 1:00 PM

Venue: PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Plot 1970, Michael Okpara Street, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

“ALL CONSTITUTIONALLY ACCREDITED MEMBERS OF NEC ARE HEREBY REMINDED ACCORDINGLY,” the statement read.

Naija News reports that the PDP statement comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had raised concerns over the party’s planned 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated for June 30, 2025, describing the notice submitted by the opposition party as non-compliant with electoral guidelines.

The INEC objection was conveyed in a letter dated June 13, 2025, and addressed to the PDP’s National Chairman.

The correspondence, with reference number INEC/DEPM/PDP/286/iii/80, was titled “RE: NOTICE OF 100TH NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY.”

Naija News reports that INEC said the notice fell short of the requirements of Part 2(12)3 of the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, which mandates that such notices be jointly signed by both the National Chairman and the National Secretary.

Meanwhile, as the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepens, the battle over the National Secretary position and controversy surrounding the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting are set to dominate deliberations as PDP governors meet with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja today.

The meeting, scheduled for 2:00 pm at the INEC Conference Hall, was formally communicated via a letter dated June 18 and signed by the commission’s Acting Secretary, Halliru Aminu.
