‘Now That My Band Can Sing In Chinese Language, I’ll Increase Their Fees’ – Wike

PDP Crisis: Wike Failed In Duty Tinubu Gave Him - Atiku's Aide

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has promised to increase the wages of his official music band.

Naija News reports that Wike made this known on Thursday, June 2025, while commissioning the newly completed collector road from Mabushi to the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe, Abuja, a project executed by a Chinese construction firm.

Midway into the event, the band’s lead singer entertained the crowd with a hilarious twist, mimicking a song in what appeared to be ‘Chinese’, in a nod to the nationality of the contractors.

Impressed by their performance, the Minister announced that he would increase their wages since they can now sing in Chinese.

Wike said, “Now that my band can sing in Chinese language, I’ll now increase their fees.”

The statement drew laughter and applause from the crowd, and shortly after the remark, the band broke into another tune, chanting, “Agreement is agreement,” repeatedly calling Wike’s name before ending with the phrase “Chi hu chan.”

Meanwhile, residents and property owners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are anxiously awaiting the next move by the FCT Administration following the expiration of the 14-day grace period for defaulters owing ground rents.

The grace window, which ended on Monday, June 16, was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after an initial wave of property revocations and enforcement by the FCT Administration.

Over 4,700 titles had been revoked for unpaid ground rents spanning between 10 and 43 years before the presidential intervention halted further action temporarily.

Although many defaulters have rushed to make payments—some fined between ₦2 million and ₦5 million in addition to their outstanding rent—uncertainty still looms over what the administration’s next steps will be.
