The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 43-year-old make-up artist, Adekoya Adebukonla Mary, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after 2.2 kilograms of cocaine were found hidden inside the factory-fitted walls of her luggage.

Naija News reports that the suspect, who claimed she was on her way to India for fibroid surgery, was intercepted on Monday, June 16, 2025, as she attempted to board a Qatar Airways flight to India via Doha.

According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Adekoya had already checked in her luggage before operatives, acting on credible intelligence, arrested her at the boarding gate. A search revealed two large parcels of cocaine ingeniously concealed inside the walls of her suitcase.

During interrogation, she allegedly admitted that the trip was a cover-up, stating she agreed to traffic the drugs in exchange for a financial payoff.

She was reportedly recruited by Akeem Ayinde Adekanbi, a wanted drug baron who operates the Rockford Hotel in Sango, Ogun State, and resides in Igbe Laara, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives at two courier companies in Lagos intercepted drug parcels hidden in packages meant for export. On Wednesday, June 18, cocaine weighing 850 grams was found hidden inside cloth hangers heading to Australia, while the next day, 1.3kg of ‘Loud’, a potent strain of cannabis, was discovered sewn into female clothing bound for Bahrain.

In Bauchi State, NDLEA agents arrested two suspects—Ibrahim Galadima (37) and Ibrahim Muhammed (28)—on the Bauchi-Darazo road with 1,013,000 pills of tramadol, diazepam, and Exol-5.

In Kaduna, Bishir Isyaku (38) was apprehended on Tuesday, June 17, along the Kaduna-Zaria expressway with 14.2kg of skunk hidden in charcoal sacks and 198kg of rubber solution.

Further arrests were made in Abuja on Wednesday, June 18, where six individuals were caught with 6.9kg of skunk and 59 grams of methamphetamine during raids in Karu Abattoir and Torabora.

In Kwara State, 22-year-old Olotin Nifemi, a student of Kwara Polytechnic, was picked up on Thursday, June 19, for allegedly distributing illicit substances to fellow students. She was found with 1kg of skunk.

One of the biggest seizures came from Ugbada camp in Uzebba forest, Owan West LGA, Edo State, where the agency destroyed 4,226.11kg of skunk during a raid on Friday, June 20. A suspect, Albert Shamaki (33), was arrested.

A day earlier, NDLEA raided Big Jamaya supermarket in Esan West LGA, arresting Esther Abumere (28) with assorted illicit drugs, including Colorado, Loud, Molly, Tramadol, and opioids.

Another raid on a provision shop in Idumeka, Igueben LGA, led to the recovery of 1.143kg of skunk and arrest of Eko Gift (38).
