Speaking in front of President Tinubu, the deputy president of the Senate, state governors, business titans like Aliko Dangote and Gilbert Chagoury, and traditional leaders, Akpabio praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun’s efforts, pointing out significant advancements in infrastructure, industry, and agriculture that have made the state a symbol of Nigeria’s economic development, according to Channels Television.

With the completion of a new international airport, Ogun State is set to begin exporting cotton globally, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s non-oil export ambitions, the Senate President specifically noted the development of a large-scale cotton farming project spanning 10,000 hectares, which currently employs over 250,000 people. “Ogun is creating new industrial capacity along the Agbara-Abeokuta corridor,” Akpabio said, adding that foreign direct investments totaling more than $5 billion had already been secured, and almost all major industries in Nigeria are establishing a presence there.

According to him, Ogun State is rapidly overtaking Lagos in terms of economic activity and internally generated revenue. “Ogun State is almost beating Lagos,” he said in jest. In his closing remarks, Akpabio urged other state governors to observe Ogun’s advancements and use federal collaborations to expedite their own development objectives. The Senate President’s remarks coincide with heightened focus on Nigeria’s economic diversification and subnational development.
