JUST IN: Gov Makinde Renames Ibadan Poly Afer Late Olunloyo

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has announced the renaming of The Polytechnic of Ibadan in honour of the late former governor of the state, Omololu Olunloyo.

Naija News reports that this announcement was made during his brief remarks at the interdenominational commendation service for the late former governor, which took place at the Obafemi Awolowo stadium in Ibadan, the capital of the state.

Governor Makinde stated, “The institution will now be referred to as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan.”

It is important to note that the late former Governor Olunloyo served as the pioneer Rector of the institution.

He passed away just a few weeks before his 90th birthday.

In other news, stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the outer city zone of Ibadanland, Oyo State, have warned Governor Seyi Makinde to avoid extravagant spending and financial mismanagement.

Their concerns arise from recent controversies over several state government projects, particularly the proposed ₦63.5 billion renovation of the Agodi Government House.

Also cited was the payment of ₦14.3 billion for the purchase of an Instrument Landing System, ILS, intended for the Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, which is currently undergoing upgrades.

The stakeholders noted that the same project had earlier attracted a full payment of ₦42 billion, with an additional ₦10 billion released later by the state government.

The party leaders made their position known in a communique issued at their quarterly meeting held on Wednesday at the APC Secretariat along New Ife Road in Egbeda Local Government Area.
