Full List Of Groups Seeking INEC Approval To Become Political Parties Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, disclosed that it has received requests from 110 associations seeking to register as political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

This development was confirmed by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during a press briefing at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The details released by INEC indicate the proposed names, acronyms, addresses and the names of the Chairmen and Secretaries for each of the associations seeking approval to become political parties.

The electoral umpire confirmed that the list contains requests received as of Monday, 23rd June 2025, and that the commission is diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as other regulations and guidelines.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reinstated Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the party, putting to rest weeks of internal wrangling and confusion over the party’s leadership structure.

The party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, made the announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing attended by top party leaders, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Damagum acknowledged that the decision to bring back Anyanwu into the National Working Committee (NWC) was not an easy one but said it was broadly supported by the party’s leadership.
