Edo Gov, Okpebholo Makes Fresh Appointment

The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Dr. Amen Ogbemudia as the Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality Assurance (DEQA).

This was announced in a statement signed and made available to the media on Thursday, June 19, by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

Naija News reports that the appointee is a seasoned educationist.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Dr. Amen Ogbemudia as the Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality Assurance (DEQA).

“Dr. Amen Ogbemudia is a seasoned Educationist with experience in Educational Management and Administration, spanning over a decade. She holds a B.Sc. Ed (Accounting) degree from Benson Idahosa University, Masters’ degree in Educational Management and Ph.D in Educational Administration from the University of Benin respectively.

“She is also a creative and skilled writer, capacity builder, strategy developer and a motivational speaker,” the Edo State government noted.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has confirmed a fresh outbreak of diphtheria in parts of the state and has rolled out a comprehensive emergency response plan aimed at swiftly containing the disease and safeguarding public health.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Fred Itua, the government assured residents that the situation is under control and that there is no cause for panic.

Governor Okpebholo, the statement said, is personally coordinating surveillance and containment efforts alongside the State Ministry of Health and other critical stakeholders.

“The administration has activated an emergency public health response, deploying all necessary resources and expertise to arrest the situation,” the statement read.

It added that life-saving vaccines have already been procured for a statewide vaccination campaign, targeting vulnerable populations, especially children, who are most at risk.

The state government disclosed that hospitals across Edo have been placed on high alert.

Medical staff have been instructed to intensify case detection, ensure prompt isolation, and follow proper clinical management protocols for suspected diphtheria cases in line with both national and global standards.
