Drama At PDP Headquarters As Staff Stage Walkout Over Anyanwu’s Return Bid

There was high drama at the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday as staff shut down operations and staged a mass walkout in protest against Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s attempt to forcibly reclaim his position as National Secretary.

Naija News reports that the protest came weeks after the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party appointed Setonji Koshoedo as the Acting National Secretary, a move that had earlier been welcomed by the secretariat workers.

Multiple sources told Vanguard that Anyanwu arrived at the Wadata Plaza headquarters in Abuja with some aides and alleged thugs, heading straight for the office of the National Secretary in what many described as an “invasion.”

One protesting staff member disclosed, “Anyanwu and his people entered the building. It wasn’t just an attempt—they actually went straight into the National Secretary’s office with some of his aides.”

But rather than confront him directly, staff members opted for a peaceful but firm resistance, shutting down their offices and exiting the building en masse.

The protest left the party secretariat completely deserted, with workers vowing not to return until Anyanwu vacated the premises.

Another staff member recounted, “We had all left our offices and walked out in protest. That firm action led to his exit.

“When he realised the atmosphere was hostile and there was no one left to work with, apart from the few people he came with, his aides advised him to leave, rather than remain in such an awkward situation.”

Monday’s incident was seen as a show of solidarity with the NWC, which had earlier replaced Anyanwu with Koshoedo following what staff described as “due internal procedures.”

In May, the staff pledged their support to the leadership of the NWC and rejected what they considered attempts to sow discord ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following the standoff, murmurs within the party have grown louder, with some staff accusing Anyanwu of being a “mole” planted by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise the PDP from within.
