Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, has been released by South African outfit, Marumo Gallants, as the club trims its squad ahead of the 2025-2026 season.
Daniel Akpeyi, 38, is among nine players shown the exit door by the Siwelele Sa Marumo.
Akpeyi, who joined the club on a free transfer last summer, made just seven league appearances in the 2024-2025 campaign.
It remains unclear whether the veteran goalkeeper, who has spent his entire professional career in South Africa, will hang up his gloves or seek a new challenge. He previously featured for Chippa United, Kaizer Chiefs, and Moroka Swallows.
Meanwhile, reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars are reportedly eyeing Rangers International’s Ifeanyi Onyebuchi as they look to bolster their backline.
The 25-year-old defender played a pivotal role in Rangers’ title-winning 2023-2024 season, scoring twice in 27 league matches and appearing in four CAF Champions League games.
Onyebuchi’s consistency and defensive acumen have made him a prime target for the Ikenne-based club, who aim to fortify their squad for domestic and continental campaigns.
In youth football, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up for the inaugural edition of the WAFU B U-20 Cup of Nations, scheduled to run from July 10 to July 24, 2025, in Accra, Ghana.
The tournament, which was initially set to be held in Prampram in June, was rescheduled to ensure optimal conditions.
The competition will serve as vital preparation for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile, as Aliyu Zubairu’s team seeks to fine-tune their squad. The Flying Eagles finished third at the 2025 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier this year.
Other nations competing in the WAFU B tournament include hosts Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Benin.
