APC: ‘Tinubu’s Failure To Fix Things Might Cause Me To Move’ – Ndume

The lawmaker representing Borno South in the National Assembly, Senator Ali Ndume, has warned that he may dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu fails to address Nigeria’s growing challenges.

Naija News reports that Ndume made the statement during an appearance on Prime Time, a programme aired by Arise Television, where he also revealed that he had attended several meetings with opposition figures working to build a coalition to unseat Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

While stressing that he still harbours hope that the president can steer the country in the right direction, Ndume hinted that he may eventually part ways with the APC if the current trajectory remains unchanged.

“I’m aware of the opposition coalition. I went to several of their meetings. I still believe this president can fix these things, but failure might cause me to move. The overloaded ship will sink,” he said.

Ndume added that, although he has received overtures from the opposition, he remains cautious about jumping ship prematurely.

“They have been making overtures, but I told them I don’t want to jump from the frying pan into the fire. I have to be sure,” he said.

The senator said he had high hopes for Tinubu’s presidency, but warned that the president’s recent political decisions, including welcoming defectors without strong ideological alignment, could threaten the future of the APC.

Ndume said, “I believe that Tinubu can be a successful president; that was my expectation. But if he continues this way, that ship, whether you load in other people or governors, you are just endangering the APC, pushing it towards capsizing.

“As the president said, there is a vacancy in the ship. But if you overload the ship, it will probably capsize, and if it capsizes, you lose everybody.”

Ndume also took a swipe at the wave of defections into the APC, describing the motivations behind many of them as unprincipled and rooted in personal gain rather than genuine political ideology.

“Most people are not joining based on principles but due to the indirect stick-and-carrot politics. And that is not healthy at all,” he said.
