APC: Tinubu Assures Governor Eno Of Full Support

President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, into the All Progressives Congress, assuring him that he will not regret his decision to join the ruling party.

Naija News reports that Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, gave the assurance during a high-profile defection ceremony held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Shettima praised Eno’s defection as a bold and strategic move, describing the APC as a party that values unity and protects its own.

“Mr. President asked me to assure you personally — no one will question your place here. The party is your home. You will not be humiliated. You will not be forsaken. We are your brothers and sisters,” Shettima declared.

He added, “We rise with the low ebbs, we ride together, and we protect those who put us through fire. That is why, 10 years on, despite all odds, we remain the party to beat.”

Also present at the event was Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who described the governor’s entry into the APC as an act of statesmanship that heralds a broader political realignment in the South-South.

“This is not just a political move; it is a historic alignment for development and national integration,” Akpabio said.

He also urged President Tinubu to support major development projects in Akwa Ibom, particularly the Ibom Deep Seaport, which he described as “critical to regional and national economic growth.”

“We are bringing capacity, competence, and loyalty to the APC,” he added.

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, commended Eno’s defection, saying the governor had moved from “political isolation to national relevance.”

He called on party members to welcome Eno and his followers wholeheartedly.

“This is a significant development. The governor has brought his political structure and supporters with him. We must treat them as returning brothers,” Ganduje said.

At least 24 APC governors and several national party leaders were in attendance, underlining the importance the party placed on Eno’s defection.

In his address, Governor Umo Eno said his decision was driven by a desire to align Akwa Ibom with the centre to attract federal support for key development initiatives.

“We are not afraid of the future. We have taken this bold step to align Akwa Ibom with the centre for the good of our people,” Eno declared.

He stressed that his administration’s ARISE Agenda remains unchanged and that he will continue to govern with fairness, regardless of political affiliations.

“Let us not focus on partisanship but partnership. Let us sheathe our swords and build one strong, united APC in Akwa Ibom,” he added.
