Breaking: Protest Erupts In Benue As Police Kill Final Year Student

The death of 23-year-old final-year student of the Federal University, Wukari, Emmanuella Ahenjir, by police personnel has led to a protest in Markurdi, the Benue State capital.

Naija News learnt that Emmanuella was allegedly shot dead on Friday morning, May 16, 2025, by unidentified police officers at the Wurukum roundabout while riding in a vehicle coming from the Gyado Villa area of the town.

According to Daily Post, the tragic incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, has drawn protesters, mostly youths, to the streets, led by prominent gender rights activist, Ukan Kurugh.

The demonstrators gathered at the Wurukum roundabout, wielding placards with inscriptions such as “End Police Brutality” and “Justice for Emmanuella.”

The protesters are demanding a thorough investigation and immediate action from the authorities.
