Oshiomhole claimed in a Symfoni TV report that he established a body named LASCO, which united labor and civil society organizations, while serving as president of the Nigeria Labour Congress. He claimed that Chima took a bus from Lagos to Kano solely to support the LASCO group in their fight.
Oshiomhole revealed that he and Chima drove to Maiduguri together following their meetings and speeches in Kano. They got there late at night, perhaps 11 p.m., he added. He disclosed that they were ambushed and robbed by armed robbers while traveling. Nevertheless, Chima remained dedicated to the cause and was ready to travel back by car in the NLC1 vehicle, which is the official NLC vehicle. According to Oshiomhole, Chima died in that same car while traveling to Abuja. He went on to say that Chima deserved recognition for his bravery and commitment since he made a significant sacrifice for Nigeria.
